Description
Willie L. Bennett Chesapeake Bay Skipjackbeautifully crafted vintage wooden ship model, built by Robert G. Prior of Marina del Rey, California. Scale: 1:384. These ships appeared on the Chesapeake Bay some time after the Civil War and are still popular today. Called SKIPJACKS, they had B-shaped bottoms, and were leg-of-mutton jib-and-mainsail type sloops. The builder used Ben Lankford's plans and his book to build the model. Including its base, the model measures 24" long, 7.5" wide, 22" tall.
For many years this model was on display in the Lloyd Taber Marina del Rey Library Nautical Wing. It is available now for purchase with
100% of net proceeds benefitting Marina del Rey Historical Society.
