    This is an ELGIN AMERICAN compact...inside is in good condition, some very slight scratching due to minimal use and it's vintage.  As you can see the bottom there is a "defective" area. I believe some nail polish may have been spilled on it or set down in nail polish. The enamel is worn off, it appears someone tried to scratch it off quickly but as you know nail polish gets rid of enamel.  See pics.  When sitting on a vanity, you don't see the bottom.  There is still a little rouge left in the small triangle pocket inside.  The middle section is empty. The mirror is in good condition.  The center has "ELGIN AMERICAN" Marked on it with initials etched under it.
    It's in good condition,  but nothing is broken. Just the bottom has the enamel missing on edge.
    I can't be sure how old it is, but it's unique and elegant.
