    Description

Presented is a cotton printed “Sons of Veterans” banner. The banner features three vertical stripes, in blue, white, and red. The middle white stripe is printed with a blue “Sons of Veterans” circular medal, ringed in laurel leaves, backed by two crossed cannons, and surmounted with an American bald eagle.
The Sons of Veterans of the United States of America, later called the Sons of Veterans of the Civil War, was founded by Major Augustus P. Davis in November 1881 to ensure the preservation of principles of the Grand Army of the Republic and to provide assistance to veterans. It is based on the principles of Fraternity, Charity and Loyalty. Davis envisioned the Sons of Veterans as not only a fraternal, patriotic and charitable organization, but as an organized military reserve to be called upon in time of war. Members of the Sons of Veterans wore military-style uniforms and practiced tactics and drill.
