President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the National Recovery Administration in 1933 as a way to stimulate business recovery in the aftermath of the Great Depression. The main purpose of the program was to create codes of “fair practices” across industry, labor and government institutions. It sought to set minimum prices at which products could be sold and help workers by setting minimum wages and maximum weekly hours. The law that created the NRA, the National Industrial Recovery Act, was found unconstitutional in 1935 and the NRA had to stop all operations. The NFL football team, the Philadelphia Eagles, got its name as a way to recognize the NRA in 1933.
