Description
Two 1930 tickets issued by the Los Angeles Steamship Co., for the S.S. Harvard, sailing for San Francisco on Aug. 10, 1930, and return, via the Pacific Electric Railway Company street railway from Wilmington to Los Angeles.Includes the ticket envelope, with map on back showing the pier location for the "Harvard", and with handstamp of its sister ship, the "Yale", dated Aug. 13, 1930.
Less than a year after these tickets were issued, the "Harvard" ran aground in heavy fog off Point Arguello, on May 30, 1931 - the 500 passengers and their baggage were all rescued by a new U.S. Navy Cruiser which raced to the scene, but the ship was a total loss.
The tickets are in Very Fine condition. The envelope has a vertical tear down the left side and a tear on the back at top right.
