    Description

RIVERSIDE GLASS AMETHYST GOLD DECORATION CROESUS PATTERN JELLY COMPORT EAPG
A beautiful hand-made early American pattern glass (EAPG) piece in the form of a little jelly comport sitting on a pedestal foot.
    It was made by the
Riverside Glass Works formerly of Wellsburg, West Virginia and the pattern is Riverside’s # 484 Croesus.
It is made in an amethyst-colored glass and is a quality piece of pressed glass.
It is decorated with gold trim on the rim and selected panels of the pattern around the body.
Croesus is one of the more attractive early glass patterns in my opinion.
The piece in my photos is the actual piece you will receive.
Please be sure to read the “Age and Condition” paragraphs below.
This same piece is pictured on pages 150, 153 and 156 in the book
Riverside Glass Works of Wellsburg, West Virginia 1879-1907
    by C. W. Gorham.
The copy of the original factory catalog page on page 150 of this book describes this piece as a “4-1/2-inch Jelly”.
This is the smallest size comport made in this pattern.
According to this author this pattern was introduced in 1897.
The jelly comport has great color and is gorgeous and in great condition as you can see from the photos!
It has been in my personal collection since the year 2000.
I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability.
Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color.
However, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures.
I will get back to you as soon as I am able.
I want your transaction with me to be exactly the way I want mine to be when I am the buyer.

    Age and Condition
    Circa 1900.
A few words about hand-made glass:
Since each piece is individually hand-made there may be slight imperfections such as whether the piece sits perfectly level or is perfectly symmetrical.
There may also be some minor variations in color between pieces and factory blemishes created in the process of making the glass such as tool marks, straw marks, acid runs as well as bubbles, tiny stones and tiny black ash specs internal to the glass.
I will not mention these unless I notice them during checking or photographing the glass.
None of what I have mentioned in this paragraph is in any way considered damage.
The jelly is in excellent to near mint original condition.
Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item.
There are no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines, cloudiness, scratches or repairs.
There is some wear to the gold trim on the rim – see the photos.
I do see one short straw mark inside the bowl, but no scratches.
This is a hard piece to find and you will be busy finding one of these in better condition than this one.
There is some slight wear to the underside of the foot where the piece sits that is consistent with the age of the piece and exactly what I would expect to see on pieces of glass of this age.
All in all, in remarkable shape for 120+ year old piece of decorated glassware.
Please keep in mind these photos can be blown up at least 8X-10X times normal, so anything you see will look 8X-10X times larger in the photos than it really is.
Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos, it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece.
It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo.
    Approximate Dimensions
It is about 4” (10.2 cm) in diameter at the top rim and sits about 4.875” (12.4 cm) tall.
    Approximate Weight
    About 10.625 ounces (300 grams).
