    Description

    25 Page Illustrated Book
    Preble County Ohio
Early days in Preble County, OH, including the communities of Eaton, Camden, West Alexander, Winchester, West Elkton, Lewisburg, New Paris and Eldorado, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this NEW 25 Page Booklet reprinted from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's Historical Collections of Ohio, The Ohio Guide (a WPA Writers Project), and other hard-to-find sources.
The spiral bound booklet is printed single-sided on quality paper, with the fine print enlarged for easier reading. A sheet of clear vinyl has been added to protect the front cover. Among the many and diverse topics in the booklet are: the Limestone Quarries; the Old Block House; Aunt Sally and Her Pet Pig; the Children's Home; Artesian Wells; Asiatic Cholera Epidemic of 1849; Col. George D. Hendricks; the One-Eyed Ox; Nettle Shirts; Girls Stolen by Indians; Vanausdal's Store; the Battle near Fort St. Clair; Lieutenant Lowry Memorial; Little Turtle, an Indian Chief; and Father Finley, an Indian Missionary and itinerant.
GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses. The Howe history covers the development of this area until about 1890, while excerpts from the WPA book, give a nostalgic glimpse from a 1940 vantage point, including interesting historical notes, especially as they relate to sightseeing possibilities. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, a map showing the 88 Ohio counties and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included.
Wouldn't this make a unique gift?
