    Description

    HENRY COUNTY
    ,
    OHIO
Early days in Henry County, OH, and its various communities, including Napoleon, Deshler, Liberty Centre and Holgate, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this
    NEW
    25 Page Booklet
of excerpts reproduced directly from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's
    Historical Collections of Ohio
and other hard-to-find sources, such as the 1940 WPA book
    The Ohio Guide.
The spiral-bound booklet is printed one-sided on quality paper with the fine print enlarged for easier reading.
A sheet of clear vinyl has been added to protect the front cover.
    Illustrations include
Napoleon in 1887 and Girty's Island.
Among the many and diverse topics covered are:
the "Black Swamp"; names of early settlers and the beginnings of Napoleon; and extensive tales about the notorious Simon Girty and his brothers, who were captured and raised by Indians. We've recently added another tale of Simon Girty and Simon Kenton from an old book of "Wild West" stories written in 1901. Girty is generally regarded as a villian, but in this yarn, he's more or less a hero.
    GENEALOGY BUFFS
will find a list of 1888
county officers and businesses. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, a brief 1941 article on Simon Girty, information from a 1940 WPA project, a map showing the 88 Ohio counties and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included.
Wouldn't this make a unique gift?
