Early days in Grant County, IN, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this new 8.5" x 11" spiral-bound booklet, printed on 60# opaque paper. The booklet is reprinted from
A Century of Development, Grant County, Indiana
, compiled by the Grant County Junior Historical Society in 1937. To this we have added excerpts from

Some of the many subjects discussed are:
the Battle of Mississinewa, Frances Slocum, Meshingomesia, the City of Marion, Historical and Scenic sites, Organization of the county, the Townships, the Courthouse and Jail, Education, Religion, Medicine, Law, Famous Sons of Grant County, including Thomas Riley Marshall, Joaquin Miller, Kenesaw Mountain Landis, David Lewis Payne (the original Oklahoma Boomer), Caleb B. There is also a partial list of the cemeteries of Grant County with the names of the first person buried in each.
Unlike most of our booklets, this one does have a partial index!
    Pictures include
General Francis Marion, Willis Van Devanter, the Marion High School building, Chief Meshingomesia, an aerial view of Marion, maps, the marker in the courthouse yard, Samuel McClure Sr., the Horace Mann Grade building and a few others.
