    Payne County, Oklahoma Place Names
Compiled by Mahlon G. Erickson, copyright 2019
A culmination of over 30 years of research by Mahlon G. Erickson; he published this book highlighting "local residents of small communities, often just 'neighborhoods' and not even towns.  Many mentions were of locations where celebrations, fairs, races, church services, etc., were held.  Most of these locations were on someone's farm."
Erickson used the Township & Range system, and one could use the USGS quadrangle maps or the 1907 Standard Atlas of Payne County to pinpoint locations mentioned in the book.  Much of the information was from Payne County newspapers and Courthouse records.
    Locations mentioned include:  C
ommunities, Towns, Creeks, Schools, Churches, Parks, Springs, Ponds, Fords across Rivers, Ranches, Cemeteries, and MUCH MORE!!
