HISTORY OF
Mariposa County, CA
Early days in Mariposa County, California, are recalled in this
new
26-page spiral-bound booklet, comprised of excerpts from three vintage sources:
A Memorial and Biographical History of the Counties of Merced, Stanislaus, Calaveras, Tuolumne and Mariposa, California
(1892),
Historic Spots in California -- Valley and Sierra Counties
by Rensch and Hoover (1933) and Coy's 1919
Guide to the County Archives of California
.
Other booklets are available on Merced, Stanislaus, Calaveras and Tuolumne County histories, taken from these same sources.
The colorful front cover is printed on 80# card stock and has been protected with a vinyl sheet. The 8.5" x 11" text is printed on quality paper, with two original pages on each sheet.
Among the many subjects included in the 1892 excerpt are: Organization of the county, the mining industry in the county, the communities of Mariposa, Hornitos, and Coulterville, other smaller localities, Yosemite National Park, discovery of Yosemite Valley, Indian troubles in the area, and the Mariposa Grove of Big Trees.
The Historic Spots excerpt concerns Walker's Trail over the Sierra, Clark's Station at Wawona, Yosemite Valley, points of interest on the All-Year Highway, Agua Fria, Mariposa, Mormon Bar, Mount Bullion, Hornitos, the Mount Ophir Mint, Bear Valley, Coulterville, Exchequer, and Interesting Names.
The Archives Guide is available for those interested in deeper research and also includes a map of the county.
A picture of the Lower Chil-Noo-Al-Na Falls at Wawona Station is included.
Our California booklets are a good resource for learning about the history, geography and social climate of places where you or your ancestors have lived or of places you plan to visit.
