ON THE COVER
Our cover photos span a little more than 30 years on the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad (from 1941 to 1972), bringing attention to the historical society's 30th anniversary.
Upper left: C&EI Class K-2 4-6-2 Pacific 1011 is seen in Chicago in August 1941. The photographer apparently shot a few Pacifics that day. The Baldwin-built steamers came to the railroad in 1911-1912 and served until 1948-1950. -Rick Schroeder collection
Upper right: F3A 1407 wears the classic "Illini" blue and orange paint scheme and is pictured at Dolton, Illinois. The photo was taken in the mid-1960s. -Jim Boyd photo
Lower left: EMD NW2 switcher 124 waits for duty at Chicago Heights in November 1960. These switch engines came to C&EI service in November 1949. -Rick Schroeder collection
Lower right: Dressed in Missouri Pacific blue with the "screaming eagle" logo on the side, C&EI GP35 667 is captured at Dolton, Illinois, in June 1972. This unit began its railroad service as C&EI 259 in black and white paint. On MoPac's roster, the unit became 2564. -Ronald Plazzotta photo
