The first part of the booklet contains a brief history of the county: County Organization; the town of Batesville; County officials from 1820 to 1888; Early settlements and settlers; Boundaries and topography; Churches; Other towns -- Cushman, Jamestown, Newark, Pleasant Plains, Sulphur Rock; Schools; Civil War period; and other items of interest.
Besides the names mentioned in the first part of the booklet, there are biographies of many county residents of yesteryear. Most are lengthy, and often include ancestors, previous residences, children, in-laws, affiliations, military service, and business activities.
