Description
You are bidding on 4+ fertile hatching eggs from our small flock of mostly purebreddutch hookbill ducks
(females have some welsh harlequin in them, drakes are purebred) who live free range and happy on our farm in southern West Virginia. This breed is
endangered
according to the Livestock Conservancy, and according to multiple sources, there are less than 1000 breeding females left in the world. As such, the
utmost care will be taken when packaging and shipping
these eggs! If you're able to pick up locally, I would
strongly
urge you to do so, as
w
e cannot guarantee hatch rates
due to the fact that many things are beyond our control once the eggs leave our farm. Once you receive the eggs, I recommend putting them under a broody hen or duck for best results.
I'm getting very good fertility with these
. Of one batch I sold recently, 7 of 8 developed. Nevertheless,
fertility is not guaranteed.
I will include egg-stras when available. :) Eggs are shipped out on Monday and Tuesday to allow maximum time for them to go through the postal system. I gather them throughout the week and each egg will be labeled in pencil with the date it was laid. You will receive the freshest eggs possible, but due to high demand, it may be a bit* before your eggs are shipped.
I will message you a few days before your eggs go out so you can be ready for them!
These orders are being shipped out throughout the months of May to September. I will ship yours on the soonest available ship date, which I will tell you once payment is received.
I can entertain ship date requests but cannot make guarantees.
This listing is perfect if your incubator will be occupied for a while.
If you would like your eggs sooner, please check my other listings.
I can include a 72-hour heat pack upon request; however, it can cause the eggs to start developing in the box if they get too hot, so I don't recommend it. I cover the box with FRAGILE stickers usually but can remove them if requested. If you purchase multiple quantities and all the eggs fit in the same box, I will give you a partial shipping refund. Please let me know in a message if you would like me to mark your eggs to be held at the post office. I will need your phone number so they can call you.
I only ship to the USA lower 48, sorry. Due to the nature of the item, I also don't ship to PO/AFO/FPO boxes.
Please know that while I do my best to brush each egg off with a dry brush, there may still be poop on some of your eggs. You can trust that my flock is healthy and parasite-free and that the poop will not cause any harm.
No returns, refunds, or exchanges on hatching eggs.
I will do my best to accommodate packaging requests, but there are no guarantees I'll be able to fill all of them. I package these eggs VERY carefully and bring them to the post office myself.
Broken eggs are not my fault,
as every egg I ship is candled for cracks before being sent out.
Please base your feedback on my customer service,
not
on the arrival condition or hatch rate or fertility of your eggs.
Shipping hatching eggs is a gamble with USPS as the middleman, and results are far from guaranteed. I recommend letting the eggs rest for a day after arrival before incubating.
If half or more of your eggs arrive broken, I am willing to replace the broken eggs for just the cost of shipping should you contact me with pictures as soon as they arrive. I will only do this one time per person. Please contact me ASAP if you need replacements!
About the dutch hook bill duck:
The most striking feature of the extremely rare Dutch Hookbill duck is, of course, its curved bill. No other duck breed has a bill like this. They’re a light breed, weighing only 3.5-5 pounds. They lay 100-200 white, blue, or green eggs per year. They’re also usually fairly good mothers and broodies. They’re easy to keep, docile, friendly, and get along well with other ducks. They’re supreme foragers, and many are able to find all the food that they need, because that was what they were expected to do when they were first developed. Many consider them to be the best foragers of all duck breeds. Thus, aside from their unique appearance, their self-sufficiency is one of their most prominent traits.
