    "Ties" was the company magazine of the Southern Railway System. The first issue appeared in March 1947, and the last issue was published in 1982.You are bidding on an issue of "Ties" from May, 1948. The cover photo shows a freight passing over Wells Viaduct near Toccoa (GA); features include Southern’s St. John’s River Terminal in Jacksonville (FL), a profile of a camp car cook, an explanation of new centralized traffic control on Southern’s main line in Kentucky, the company’s stationer, a financial and operating review of 1947, and an editorial on the reasons for low railroad earnings; there are over 4 dozen photos.

    "Ties"
    was the award-winning company magazine of the former
    Southern Railway System
    .
    The
    first issue appeared in March 1947,
    and the
    last issue was published in March 1982
    , at which time Southern merged with the Norfolk & Western Railway and "
    Ties"
    was discontinued. The magazine was
    published monthly through 1968
    ; it was issued
    every two months from 1968 through the last edition
    . It was considered to be
    among the finest of the railroad company magazines
    . All issues contain feature stories about railroad operations, company news, and many photographs; the later issues were printed in color, some with 2-page centerfold color photos.
